Spider Therapy
“Spider Therapy” is a type of therapy which is carried out within the Universal Exercise Unit.
With spider therapy children can be supported into a standing position with 8 bungee cords to allow the children to experience the sensation of standing and weight bearing whilst in a safe, and “hands-off” method.
Spider therapy can be used to assist children with additional needs including cerebral palsy, as well as other diagnoses such as genetic syndromes, developmental delay, and neuromuscular disorders. The UEU exercise unit can be incorporated within treadmill training to provide additional support or to create external added resistance to target specific muscles. A harness and use of bungee cords and/or ropes can be used when the child is on the treadmill to create either a rigid support or a more elastic support depending on the child’s level of functional ability and their stage of gait rehabilitation. Precisely placed cords or bungees can also be placed inside the cage to act as unstable handrails for dynamic balance training whilst walking.

Our goal at Ability Therapies is to help children maximise every ability and reach their full potential!
